Leonhard Johannes Spitzer (* 1950 in Drosa , Saxony-Anhalt ) is a German local politician ( CDU ). Until May 2014 he was the full-time mayor of Voerde .

Political career

After being elected treasurer and alderman by the city council, he began his service with the city of Voerde on January 1, 1996. Since then he has headed the finance, youth and social affairs departments. Later, the areas of school, sport and culture also fell into his area of ​​responsibility. He continued to work in many local and regional committees, including working groups in the state parliament.

In 2003, Spitzer was elected as a joint candidate of the CDU , FDP , the Greens and UVW directly by the citizens as Mayor of Voerd. The by-election within the then already running 13th electoral term of the city council was necessary because his predecessor Hans-Ulrich Krüger was elected to the 15th German Bundestag before the end of the council's electoral term. The term of office of Mayor Spitzer ends with the expiration of the 14th electoral term of the city council. With the election for the 15th electoral term of the city council in 2009, Leonhard Spitzer was re-elected as mayor for a further six years. For personal reasons, he made his mayor's office available in 2014 in the course of the election to the 16th Voerder city council, although his term of office would have lasted another year. In this election he no longer ran for the office of mayor of the city of Voerde. His term ended on June 22, 2014.

Spitzer is married, has three children and lives with his family in Voerde on the Lower Rhine.

On September 21, 2018 Leonhard Spitzer was elected chairman of the German Red Cross District Association Dinslaken-Voerde-Hünxe eV.
