Leonhard Truog

Leonhard Truog (born May 18, 1760 in Schiers , † April 24, 1848 in Ilanz ) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman and historian .

Life

Leonhard Truog came from a family of farmers and attended the village school in Schiers. He was later trained by the parish priest. From 1782 to 1784 he worked as a private tutor in Rodels . In Bondo GR he was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod on June 19, 1784 , which allowed him to work as a pastor in the Free State of the Three Leagues . Although he can be found briefly at the Bern Academy, he took over the pastor's position in Thusis in the same year . Appointed to the cantonal church council in 1808, the synod installed Truog as vice dean in 1814 . In 1825 he was appointed Dean of the Gray Covenant . In addition to these offices, he continued to work as a pastor until his death. Truog died on April 24, 1848 in Ilanz at the age of 87.

Truog wrote several historical works about the canton of Graubünden.
