Leonie Wild

Leonie Wild (née Steinmann ; born January 30, 1908 in St. Ilgen ; † June 13, 2005 in Eppelheim ) was a German entrepreneur . She and her husband Rudolf Wild founded the Rudolf Wild Works and the Leonie Wild Foundation .

Life

After her father passed away at an early age, she and her husband Rudolf Wild founded the Zig-Zag factory on Marstallstrasse in Heidelberg in 1931 . In 1937 the young company, which was now called Rudolf-Wild-Werke , moved to a large site in Eppelheim. When her husband completed his military service in World War II , Leonie Wild headed the company for several years and later became senior partner.

In addition to her professional activity, Leonie Wild became involved in the social and cultural field from an early age. Her greatest work, the Leonie Wild Foundation, founded in 1997 and named after her, is committed to helping needy citizens as well as social and cultural projects, particularly in Eppelheim and the Rhine-Neckar region. The folk song singing in the Rudolf-Wild-Halle in Eppelheim every year in May and the annual Christmas party for socially disadvantaged people go back to her and her husband. After the Second World War, there was a big saying in Eppelheim when someone needed help: “Ask Leonie!” In Eppelheim, Leonie-Wild-Platz and Leonie-Wild-Straße were named after her.

Awards

In 1997, the city of Eppelheim awarded Leonie Wild an honorary citizen . In 1996 Leonie Wild received the Gold Staufer Medal from the State of Baden-Württemberg and in 1997 the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
