Franz Staerk

Franz Gustav Staerk (born March 16, 1859 in Fünfkirchen , † 1926 in Graz ) was Vice Mayor of Graz and architect of several well-known buildings.

Staerk put the Matura at the secondary school in Sibiu and studied from 1877 to 1879 at the Technical University in Prague and from 1879 to 1892 at the school of architecture in Vienna architecture . During his studies in Prague in 1877 he became active with the Teutonia fraternity and in Vienna in 1879 with the Albia fraternity . He earned the reputation of a star fencer, as he fought 42 games on plempe , bat and saber . While he was already in Graz in 1886, the Arminia fraternity made him an honorary boy. He made a decisive contribution to the establishment of the so-called Black-Red-Golden Cartel, the merger of these three student associations in 1887. In Vienna he graduated from Theodor Herzl's only length on June 11, 1881 .

Professional and political career

Graz Opera

After successfully completing his studies, he worked as an architect and from 1889 was a city architect in Graz. There he played a decisive role in the construction of the Graz Opera House and the Orpheum as well as a number of other public buildings. Staerk was also politically active and was elected to the Graz municipal council and city council. From 1905 to 1924 he was Vice Mayor of Graz. He resigned from the public service on June 12, 1924 as chairman of the building section and city council.

Private

He married Ella von Hoeffern on May 14, 1889 in Saalfeld / Sachsen-Meiningen, with whom he had two children. Franz Staerk died on October 26, 1926 in Graz and was buried on October 29, 1926 in an urn in the Protestant St. Peter cemetery in Graz.
