Leopold Durm

Leopold Durm (born July 3, 1878 in Karlsruhe , † March 21, 1918 there ) was a German doctor and painter .

Life

Leopold Durm was born as the son of the Karlsruhe architect and architecture professor Josef Durm . After graduating from high school, he first studied medicine and in 1897 became a member of the Corps Rhenania Freiburg . He completed his studies with a doctorate. med. from. Then he turned to painting. In Munich he belonged to the Scholle artists' association. He owned a house on Seeholzstrasse in the Holzhausen artists' colony.

Durm took part in the First World War as a doctor. He died in 1918 of an illness that he contracted in the field. His grave is in the main cemetery in Karlsruhe.

In his early works Durm was influenced by the natural lyricism of the plaice, but in the later years developed his style towards the monumental. His late works were created during breaks in combat before Arras and Verdun .
