Leopold Gerlach (cultural scientist)

Leopold Gerlach (* October 1834 in Dessau ; † 1917 there ) was a German pedagogue and cultural scientist.

Life

Gerlach attends the Dessau grammar school. After graduating from high school in Easter 1854, he began studying philology at the University of Berlin in the summer semester of 1854, where he became a member of the Corps Normannia Berlin . After moving to the University of Göttingen , he became a member of the Corps Hannovera Göttingen in 1857 . At Easter 1858 he got his first job in the school service as an assistant teacher at the Francisceum Zerbst and six months later became an inspector there. In November 1863 Gerlach became a teacher at the Friedrich-Franz-Gymnasium (Parchim) . In 1873 he was appointed to the Dessau grammar school, where he was appointed titular professor in 1877.

Gerlach worked as a librettist for the composer and Dessau court music director August Klughardt , for example for the oratorio The Destruction of Jerusalem ; he also wrote his biography in 1902.

He was a member of the Dessau Masonic Lodge Esiko for the rising light and is listed as its honorary master in 1908 .
