Leopold Petznek (born June 30, 1881 in Bruck an der Leitha , † July 27, 1956 in Vienna ) was a social democratic politician in Lower Austria .

Life

Petznek was born to Franz Petznek and his wife Maria Lackmayer. After the early death of both parents, he grew up in the Hyrtl orphanage in Mödling . Petznek worked from 1900 to 1911 as a primary school teacher and from 1911 to 1930 as a community school teacher.

In 1921 he met the red Archduchess Elisabeth Marie Windisch-Graetz , the daughter of Crown Prince Rudolf ; the couple did not marry until 27 years later, on May 14, 1948. Petznek was a member of the Lower Austrian Parliament from 1921 to 1934 and Second President of the Lower Austrian Parliament from 1927 to 1934. From 1930 to 1933 he was director of the elementary and secondary school in Mödling . He retired in 1933, he was retired from 1934 to 1945 and from 1947 onwards. He was imprisoned in the corporate state dictatorship from February to July 1934; under the National Socialist regime he was held in the Dachau concentration camp from 1944 to April 1945 .

He was President of the State Audit Office from November 28, 1945 to December 17, 1945 and, elected by the National Council, first President of the Audit Office after the Second World War from December 17, 1945 to February 23, 1947. In the Windisch-Graetz-Villa on the western outskirts Vienna, which belonged to his wife, was only able to move in in 1955, shortly before Petznek's death, when the villa was released by the withdrawing French occupying power.

Petznek was buried at the Hütteldorfer Friedhof (group 2, number G72), where his wife was later buried.
