Leopold Waess

Leopold Waess (born August 26, 1908 in Frankfurt am Main ; † October 19, 1994 ) was a Hessian politician ( FDP ) and former member of the Hessian state parliament .

education and profession

After graduating from high school and commercial college, Leopold Waess trained in photo trading at companies in Germany and abroad and founded his own company in Wernigerode (Harz) in 1935 . He attended the art academy in Weimar and passed the master craftsman examination as a photographer there in 1937. During the Second World War he was a soldier for six years. From 1945 he worked independently in Limburg an der Lahn .

politics

Leopold Waess joined the FDP after the war and became district chairman of the FDP in 1950. In 1970 he resigned from the FDP after the FDP had entered the Social Liberal Coalition . In 1953 he was elected chairman of his party's federal committee for trade policy.

For his party he was a city councilor, parliamentary group spokesman and member of the magistrate in Limburg (Lahn). From December 1, 1954 to November 30, 1958 and again from October 5, 1961 to November 30, 1966, he was a member of the Hessian state parliament.

Other offices

Leopold Waess was state guild master of the Hessian photography trade for 25 years and was then appointed honorary state guild master. He was Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for 10 years and also Chairman of the Retail Association in Hesse for 10 years. For 6 years he was President of the German Trade Association in Hesse.
