Lepismium bolivianum is a species of the genus Lepismium in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet bolivianum means 'Bolivian'.

description

Lepismium bolivianum grows with square main shoots, winged at the base, on which areoles with short, yellowish bristles are located. The remaining flattened, thin-fleshed, strongly notched shoot segments are 1.5 to 30 inches long and 1 to 2 inches wide. The areoles sitting in the notches are woolly. Thorns are absent or poorly developed.

The whitish, creamy white or light pink flowers usually appear individually. They are up to 1.5 centimeters long and 1 centimeter in diameter. The spherical, brownish yellow fruits reach a diameter of up to 1 centimeter.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Lepismium bolivianum is distributed in the Bolivian departments of La Paz and Cochabamba in the cloud forest and the Yungas vegetation at altitudes of 1100 to 2100 meters.

The first description under the incorrect name Hariota boliviana ( ICBN Article 11.4) was made in 1893 by Nathaniel Lord Britton . Wilhelm Barthlott placed the species in 1991 in the genus Lepismium . Nomenclatory synonyms are Rhipsalis boliviana (Britton) Lauterb. (1910), Nothorhipsalis boliviana (Britton) Doweld (2002) and Pfeiffera boliviana (Britton) DRHunt (2002).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
