Leptokarya ( Greek Λεπτοκαρυά ( f. Sg. )) Is a small town with 3700 inhabitants (2011) on the Thermaic Gulf . From an administrative point of view, it forms the urban district of the same name in the municipality of Dion-Olymbos in the Greek region of Central Macedonia . It was the administrative seat of the former municipality of Anatolikos Olymbos until 2010 until it was incorporated into Dion-Olymbos.

The urban area of Leptokaryas lies between the Thermaic Gulf and the Aftokinitodromos 1, which runs about one kilometer to the west .
The 66.386 km² large city district extends in the west to the foothills of Mount Olympus and borders there on Karya in the municipality of Elassona in the Thessaly region . In the north, the municipality of Litochoro borders on the local community of Skotina in the south .
West of the A1 about 4.5 kilometers from the city center are Palea Leptokarya ('Old Leptokarya') at about 300 m altitude and a little south of it the archaeological excavation site of the ancient city of Leibethra .

Leptokarya is located directly on three main traffic routes running in a north-south direction. It is connected to Aftokinitodromos 1 via the Leptokarya junction immediately south of the city . National Road 1 and parallel to it the Piraeus – Thessaloniki railway run through the city . The station Leptokarya situated in the city center.
Administrative division
Leptokarya was recognized in 1918 as a rural municipality (Κοινότητα Λεπτοκαρυάς) of the Thessaloniki prefecture . By separating from the prefecture of Thessaloniki, Leptokarya came to the newly founded prefecture of Pieria in 1949 . After the municipal reform in 1997 , Leptokarya was merged with four other rural communities to form the municipality of Anatolikos Olymbos, with its administrative headquarters in Leptokarya. Since the administrative reform in 2010 and Leptokarya has the status of a city district.

Others
Leptokarya has church significance through the Argos Zodhiates Bible Camp, which attracts Protestant Greeks from all over the world. The Synod of the Greek Evangelical Church also meets there .
The Geological-Historical Museum of Mount Olympus is located in the village .
