Learning and memorial place "Medical crimes under National Socialism"

The learning and memorial site “Medical Crimes under National Socialism” has been part of the permanent exhibition of the Medical History Museum Hamburg since the end of 2017 . It goes back to a decision by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in 2015 to create a place that should provide information about medical crimes.

Conception

Impetus for the design of the learning and memorial site gave Herbert Diercks from the KZ Neuengamme , the employee of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Protection Hamburg Hildegard Esser, Detlef Garbe , the physician and former director of the Institute of General Medicine at the UKE Hamburg Hendrik van den Bussche , Philipp Osten and Michael Wunder .

Learning and memorial place

The Hamburg Medical History Museum commemorates Hamburg victims of Nazi euthanasia , forced sterilization and human experiments .

The ideological foundations of medical crimes that existed before 1933 are taught. Victim biographies are illuminated. The perpetrators are also addressed. The remembrance culture of dealing with the crimes is also an issue.

A database terminal is available that enables victim biographies to be researched.
