The Les Garcons were a beat band founded in 1963 that played in northern Germany until 1968 and made a comeback in 1992.

history

The youth band Les Garcons was founded in Bremervörde in early 1963 and, like almost all youth bands of that time, had the claim to play live music for the then modern dances such as rock 'n' roll and twist . In the 1960s, this music could hardly be heard by music bands playing for dance and German radio stations and was mainly heard by young people on Radio Luxemburg , AFN and the so-called pirate stations such as E.g. heard radio Caroline . Against this background, the music-loving schoolchildren and apprentices Lutz Wiebusch, Michael Schwekendiek, Jürgen Bösch and Heinrich Peters founded a band with the simplest of means and mainly English-language pieces by the Beatles , Searchers , The Lords , Rattles , Bee Gees , Byrds and other rock and pop - and played beat bands. The wonderful chanson by Françoise Hardy : "Tout les garcons et les filles" became the godfather for her name. During the first practice sessions, the necessary equipment and suitable practice rooms were still missing, but with improvisation and the help of friends, a band in rural areas with many loyal fans was created.

Appearances

The first public appearance took place in the summer of 1963 in the extension of the old middle school, which was demolished in 1963. Due to the success, further appearances followed at the dance tea in the House of Youth and very often in the Bremen Schützenhof. Karl Hundsdörfer and Bernhard Sanning completed the Les Garcons and other members such as Thomas Thormann, Friedhelm Bialluch, Wolfgang Steinort and Horst Penz joined the band for members who had moved away or who were unable to attend. The enthusiasm for music of this time can also be measured by the loyal up to 200 fans who accompanied “their band” to the external appearances. Since the band members were apprentices or students of secondary schools, the band was supported by their "managers" Karl and Peter Frerk. They lived alone in a large house and not only took care of the appearances, advertising and bureaucracy, but also made their huge hall available for practice.

In the Schützenhof Bremervörde, the Hamburg group Rattles played in the opening act several times , and in the summer of 1966 they performed in the Spreckenser Schmiedekrug together with the German beat and rock band The Lords from Berlin. In the famous Bahnhofs-Hotel in Deinste a successful concert was organized together with The Rivets and the top singer Henner Hoier . Another highlight was the rock and beat festival in the Horneburger Festhalle, in which the group took part alongside the “Valendras” and the English rock group “Creation”.

Dissolution and comeback

In the meantime the apprenticeship of some band members was coming to an end and the military service had to be started. For 1967, therefore, the dissolution of the band was considered, but this dragged on until December 15, 1968, the date of the farewell concert.

25 years later, the core of the group came back together with Lutz Wiebusch and Jürgen Bösch, who were there from the beginning, as well as Friedhelm Bialluch, Karl Hundsdörfer and Wolfgang Steinort, and they played at the Oldie Night at Vörder See in August 1992 . This gig with many enthusiastic "old" fans was so moving that a new beginning was decided. In the next 10 years, Bremen festivals, store openings and anniversaries as well as dance teas were played.
