Les Hanois , also known as Les Hanoveaux , are a group of cliffs and reefs in the English Channel not far west of the island of Guernsey . They are the extreme western of the Channel Islands and administratively belong to the area of the parish ( parish ) Torteval in the bailiwick (bailiwick) of Guernsey.
In addition to a number of nameless cliffs, rocks and shallows , some of which only break through the water surface at low tide, the Hanois include the larger cliffs "Le Bisé" (also "Le Biseau"), "Le Grand Hanois", "Le Petit Hanois", " La Percée ”,“ Rond Rocque ”(“ Round Rock ”) and“ La Grosse Rocque ”.
The lighthouse Les Hanois was built on "Le Bisé" between 1860 and 1862 to warn ships of these very dangerous cliffs. The lighthouse was automated in 1995 and the last lighthouse keeper left in early 1996.
