Les Hurlements d'Léo are a French folk rock band from Bordeaux . Their music is a mixture of French chanson and punk or ska . They are in the tradition of Les Négresses Vertes . Her name means something like Leo's screams.

Band history

Founded in 1995, they originally played almost exclusively in the local scene in south-west France before making a national name for themselves in the French live scene by performing at the national festivals of Bourges , La Rochelle and Rennes . In 1998 they recorded their first album, Le Café des Jours Heureux . In the same year they bought the Latcho Drom , a big top with the band Les Ogres de Barback , with which the two bands subsequently went on tour together in France. The second album La Belle Affaire was released in 2000. Appearances in Australia , Belgium , Russia and Japan followed, as well as a first appearance at the Sziget Festival in Budapest . In 2001 they toured France, Poland and Switzerland with the Latcho Drom . For the first time they also played in Berlin . The live album Un Air Deux Familles recorded here was a great success in France.

In 2003 Les Hurlements d'Léo released their third album Ouest Terne and in the same year worked with the Berlin band 17 Hippies . The resulting EP Hardcore Trobadors was recorded in Berlin and released in 2004 in France on Wagram . Appearances in Berlin and Moscow followed, as well as a joint tour of France with 17 hippies. In 2005 the band released a live album, in March 2006 the next studio album Temps Suspendu . In 2007 a collaboration with the Italian band L'Enfance Rouge followed . However, the joint tour could not build on past successes.

In 2009 the compilation album 13 Ans de Caravaning was released , on which there are also some previously unreleased songs. After a three-year break, a new album was released in 2011 with the title Bordel de Luxe . In the following two years, Les Hurlements d'Léo played over 250 concerts, including in Russia, Spain , Germany and Switzerland. From 2014 to 2015 the band worked on a tribute album in honor of the French singer Mano Solo, who died in 2010 . The album, on which Bertrand Cantat , Zebda and Babylon Circus participated, was released in June 2015 under the title Chantent Mano Solo . A year later, a live album of the accompanying tour was released, followed by the band's next studio album, Luna de Papel , in 2018 .
