history

The history of Leswalt is linked to the Agnew clan . With Old Lochnaw Castle , the remains of a fortification of the clan from the 1360s can be found not far from the village. In 1426 a new fortress was built, which in 1663 was replaced by a tower house for Andrew Agnew, 2nd Baronet . A 16th century tower house formed the nucleus of today's mansion Lochnaw Castle , the ancestral seat of the Agnew Baronets and the Agnew clan. With the ruins of the 16th century Galdenoch Castle, there is another fortification of the Agnew clan west of Leswalt.

In the 1971 census survey, 237 people were counted in Leswalt.
