Leszek Żabiński

Leszek Tadeusz Jerzy Żabiński (born August 18, 1947 in Breslau ; † September 19, 2019 ) was a Polish economist . From 2012 to 2016 he was rector of the Katowice University of Economics and Business ( Uniwersytet Ekonomiczny w Katowicach ).

Life

Leszek Żabiński studied at the Commercial College in Wroclaw (today Wroclaw University of Economics ) and graduated in 1969 with a master's degree . He then worked at the Oskar-Lange- Handelsakademie Breslau until 1979 , where he obtained his doctorate in 1975 . In 1979 he started teaching at the Katowice Business Academy (since 2010 Katowice University of Economics ). In 1981 Żabiński completed his habilitation at the Wroclaw School of Economics (today Poznan University of Economics ). From 1984 to 1987 he was Vice-Rector of the Business Academy, then until 1991 Director of the Institute for Market and Consumption. From 1991 Leszek Żabiński was Head of the Chair of Market Policy and Marketing and from 2002 to 2008 Dean of the Faculty of Management. Between 1993 and 1996 he worked at the Main Mining Institute ( Główny Instytut Górnictwa ) in Katowice. From 2002 to 2005 he was a member of the Strategic Economic Council of the Polish Council of Ministers. In 2012 he was elected Rector of the University of Economics and Business, but after his term of office of four years he did not run again, he was succeeded by Robert Tomanek . Also in 2012 he became a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences .
