Let Me Dream is a Finnish dark and gothic metal band from Riihimäki , which was founded in 1989 as a nameless project. After the name Congestion was chosen in 1992 , it was renamed to the current name in 1994.

history

The band was founded in early 1989 by guitarist and singer Jani Koskela and drummer Janne Peltoranta, still without a name. Another member was Teemu Peltoranta, sometimes as a singer, sometimes as a drummer. Until 1991 the group experimented with different styles, in early 1992 the decision for the band name was Congestion. More frequent rehearsals followed and Teemu Peltoranta took over the keyboarder position. Marko Pitkänen joined the team as the second guitarist, but left the line-up after a few months because he didn't have the time to rehearse. A first demo was recorded in June . This nameless demo contains three songs, one of which is a cover version of the Celtic Frost song Dethroned Emperor . A few months later, Pitkänen returned to the cast. Then work began on the second demo, which was recorded towards the end of the year and is entitled Third Dimension . Pitkänen is listed in writing in the cast, but he cannot be heard on the demo because he had left the band again. In 1993 Marko Tuominen joined as the new bass player and singer. The third demo, Bed of the Ancient River , was also recorded, after which the group began performing live. Teemu Peltoranta's departure the following year was offset by Jari Koskela's entry. Then the band went on tour through Finland together with the Argentine group Vibrion. A fourth demo gave the band a record deal for an album with the French label Adipocere Records . The group then went to the Soundwall Studio in Seinäjoki in March 1994 . During the recording, the band decided to rename it Let Me Dream. The band name goes back to Jani Koskela, who was inspired by the Celtic Frost song Rex Irae and HP Lovecraft . The last gig under the name Congestion took place in a club in Seinäjoki.

In early 1995, the debut album My Dear Succubus was released on Adipocere Records worldwide. Only around 3,000 units of the album separated. Jarno Keskinen joined them as the second guitarist. However, since the collaboration between him and the other members did not work, he left the line-up after a few months and the band remained as a quartet. At the end of the year the demo The Maze was recorded, with which the band started looking for a new contract. In 1996 the first tour was held through northern and central Finland, where they acted as the opening act for Two Witches . The demo Medley Rain was recorded at the end of the year . In 1997 the band founded their own label Succubus Records, which was released as an EP in 1998 by Medley Rain . The promo video for the theme song was broadcast on national television along with an interview. In the same year Juhana Stolt also joined as a second guitarist. In 1999 a tour of Finland with Midnight Configuration and Two Witches was carried out. After Tuukka Koskinen joined as an additional singer, the first appearance abroad was made at the Hell Gates Festival in Tallinn . In addition, a record deal was signed with the Italian label Nocturnal Music , as the use of their own label was not satisfactory for the members. Following appeared The Maze as EP, which led by Jani Loikas had been included in the band's own studio LMD. In 2000 the second album Greyscales was released worldwide. This was followed by tours through Finland: first with Finntroll and then with Ensiferum and later with Ancient Rites . A promo video for The Maze was also broadcast on national TV. After the Ancient Rites tour, the drummer Peltoranta decided in March 2001 to quit because he didn't have the time to rehearse. In the same year, a suitable replacement was found in Marko Jokinen, whereupon appearances in Russia and Estonia followed. Towards the end of the year, the recording of the third album began in Soundwall Studio. Between the recordings, the group gave concerts in Belgium and Germany in 2002 , and two new songs were released online. Work on the album lasted until the end of 2002, before the decision was made to move it to Cursed Studios in Hyvinkää , where the last songs were completed with Jani Loikas. In April 2003 the band played further gigs in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands . A new album called Soulshine has been announced . In November the band could be seen live in Saint Petersburg before planning a European tour for early 2004 began. A limited edition of the album was released on Succubus Records towards the end of the year. In 2004 a “Eurotour Edition” followed, which contains a music video for Dust of Time , which was filmed in Russia, Belgium and the Netherlands. The third tour through Central Europe began on January 10th at the Berlin Club Asgard, before ending a week later at the Celtic Rock Festival , the biggest concert event in Let-Me-Dream history in Gummersbach . Excerpts from this performance are included in the music video for the song Powered by the Moon . In 2005 a short tour through Europe together with I Witness was on the program. In 2006 a record deal was signed with the German label Black Bards Entertainment , about which Soulshine was released in May . After that, the group was seen live in Saint Petersburg with retaliation and a European tour with Die Apokalyptischen Reiter and Týr was held in September . The band performed for the first time in Romania .

style

In an interview with Dragos P. from metalfan.ro , Jani Koskela stated that the music is influenced by dark metal in the style of old Celtic Frost and Gothic rock in the style of Joy Division and Fields of the Nephilim . The band's songs do not contain any religious , political or mystical messages, rather they are an outlet to deal with negative feelings. Nils Herzog from musikreviews.de assigned Soulshine to Gothic and Dark Metal. In terms of music, the band avoids throwing itself around with “typical gothic feeling and easily understandable pseudo-literary phrases”. The songs are strongly influenced by keyboard sounds, although the songs have hardly any recognition value or originality. The singing is characterized by a strong Finnish accent and fluctuates between screams , growls and "melodic, sometimes very deeply voiced tones". Overall, the album suffers from too many repetitions and insignificant songwriting , which is why he would prefer similar bands like Moonlyght or Sentenced . Frank Trojan from Rock Hard also reviewed the album and described the music as dark Gothic Metal. In the singing of Tuuka Koskinen, Trojan felt reminded in places of Eric Clayton's ( Savior Machine ), with Let Me Dream proceeding “a little bolder and more metallic ” in contrast to Clayton's band .
