People today is a daily tabloid magazine of the ZDF and has been running since 1997. Right from the start, the live broadcast of around 20 minutes on weekdays has been produced by the Bavaria Studios in Unterföhring near Munich. The ZDF regional studio in Bavaria is responsible for editing and production. The magazine ran initially on weekdays at 18:45, just before the day messages, since September 8, 1997, is against 17:40 sent. In addition to the live broadcasts on weekdays, there are special broadcasts on special topics if required. The regular, pre-recorded half-hour Saturday broadcast before today's news, a kind of weekly review in which selected topics could be processed in more detail, which was added in January 2003, was discontinued in April 2011 as part of a change in the ZDF program schedule. From September 5, 2011, the studio decoration was only realized with the help of the green box . Since November 3, 2014, the program has been produced in HD in a virtual studio in the building of the Bavarian State Studio .

Moderation

The program was initially moderated by Nina Ruge . Her trademark was her always the same farewell at the end of the program: “Everything will be fine.” After the tsunami disaster in December 2004 , Ruge waived this farewell out of piety.

On February 5, 2007, Karen Webb took over the moderation. Since April 1st, 2015 she has been represented by Florian Weiss in case of illness or vacation .
