The railway line Spišská Nová Ves – Levoča (German also Leutschautalbahn , course book number 186) is a branch line in Slovakia . It runs from Spišská Nová Ves in the Hornád valley to Levoča at the foot of the Levočské vrchy . It is single-track and not electrified.

history

During the construction of the Kaschau-Oderberg Railway at the beginning of the 1870s, the route through Spišská Nová Ves instead of Levoča (administrative seat of Spiš County ) was established. The connection to the railway network was made by a bus connection established in 1872 between these cities. A local railway company was only founded in 1891 and construction began on November 1, 1891. The railway line was officially opened on November 8, 1892. The construction costs amounted to one million K .

On February 2, 2003, despite major protests by the city of Levoča, passenger traffic was stopped.

Today there is no longer any regular passenger traffic. The only exception is traffic for the pilgrimage on Mariánska hora (German Marienberg ) near Levoča, which takes place annually on the first weekend in July (timetable field 186). Freight traffic is still taking place, but it is not of great importance.

Vehicle use

The operation was initially ensured by two locomotives from the Budapest factory MÁVAG . They were classified by the KsOd XII series and were given the numbers 525 and 526. When the KsOd was taken over by the Czechoslovak state in 1924, they were given the numbers 310.505 and 310.506 by the ČSD. They were retired by 1950.
