Levent Şahin (born September 20, 1973 in Edremit ) is a former Turkish football player and coach.
Academic career
Şahin studied sports science at Gazi University in Ankara and specialized in football . After completing his regular studies, he did his doctorate at this university. After completing his studies, Şahin decided to work as a football coach.
Player career
Little is known about Şahin's footballing career. He played mostly for various clubs in the Turkish capital Ankara . As a result of a serious injury, he had to end his career early in the second half of the 1990s, while working for Ankara Şekerbank SK .
Coaching career
After his football career, Şahin decided to work as a coach in addition to his academic career. His first job was from 2000 to 2002 at the second division MKE Ankaragücü as a youth coach . In March 2003 he was hired as an assistant coach at the fourth division team Ankara Asaşspor and assisted the head coach Sezai Yıldırım . Özdeş then worked as an assistant trainer until the summer of 2009 and assisted almost exclusively the three trainers Lav, Mesut Bakkal and Ersun Yanal . After this first experience in professional soccer, Şahin worked at various clubs as a co-trainer and junior trainer.
In October 2009 he was hired as head coach at third division side Bugsaş Spor and looked after this club until the end of the season. Following this, he worked in the 2010/11 season as an assistant coach at the first division club MKE Ankaragücü.
From 2012, he was only a performance and analysis specialist on the coaching staff of the Turkish national soccer team. Here he made a name for himself over time and in phases also took over the Turkish U-16 , U-17 and A2 national teams as head coach. Before the European Championships in 2016 , he was accepted into his coaching staff as an assistant coach by the Turkish senior national coach Fatih Terim .
Provided that he can continue to work as assistant coach for the Turkish national team, Şahin took over the first division club Adanaspor in January 2017 . In April 2017 he resigned from his position and continued his assistant coaching work for the Turkish national team. In December 2017 Levent Şahin became assistant coach at Galatasaray Istanbul .
