biography

His father Iossif was a chief technologist in an armaments factory, his mother Ewgenia was a history teacher. It was not until 1947 that the Weinbergs family returned to Moscow from the evacuation. Lew began his professional life as a seaman on a steamer, he worked as a locksmith and plumber and carried out other activities in an armaments factory. In 1963 he began his studies at the Faculty of Aircraft Engines of the Moscow State Aviation Institute (MAI). In order to earn money, he also taught mathematics in the 10th grade of a school and also worked at the Department of Mathematics at the MAI. After graduating from college in 1967, Lew Weinberg stayed at the same institute and worked as a mechanical engineer. At that time he dealt with plasma diagnostics and later with computer methods for the automation of experiments. For this development work, Weinberg was awarded the State Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR in 1988.

During the time of his scientific employment in the MAI, Lev studied parallel at the mechanical-mathematical faculty of Moscow's Lomonossow University (MGU), which he left in 1977 as a mathematician. Weinberg studied decision theory , modeling theory and the psychology of scientific work at MGU . These departments formed the basis of his theoretical dissertation and shaped his future practical work. After completing his doctorate, Weinberg worked at the MAI computer center until 1987. In 1987 the Ministry for Foreign Economic Relations commissioned Weinberg to set up a joint venture. He created the Soviet-French-Italian company Interquadro (1987–1990 - managing director), the first community computer company in the USSR, which dealt with the development, evaluation and sale of hardware and software, as well as the implementation of large IT projects. For these purposes, the JV Interquadro managed to bring together over a hundred leading mathematicians in the country.

At the same time at Inter Quadro a training center for children and adults founded by citizens of the Soviet Union to mediate the first computer skills. Interquadro employees were the first to write national textbooks for education in computer science in the USSR. At that time there were a total of 21 Interquadro branches in various regions of the USSR, which organized the regional work. Together with Mikhail Komissar, Lew Weinberg founded the Interfax company at Interquadro . Currently (2012) is one of the largest information agencies in Russia today. In the first two years alone, Interquadro's sales rose to $ 60 million.

JV Interquadro was a joint venture between the government institutions of the USSR (Ministry of Higher and Middle School Education and MAI) and foreign partner companies. After a legal basis for private companies was established in 1990 in what was then the USSR, Weinberg continued his successful career as a private businessman. Since 1990 he has founded around 20 private companies as sole shareholder and co-owner or managing director, which later merged into the international group Solev .
