Leyermühle is a residential area of Remscheid on the northern edge of the city. It belongs to the district of Lüttringhausen .

Leyermühle is located a little off the road between Ronsdorf and Clarenbach am Leyerbach near Stollen . In 1565 a ducal camera mill was built here because the residents of the Erbschlö and Hohenhagen honors no longer wanted to make the long journey to the Beyenburger mill , the original ban mill at the official seat of the Beyenburg office . This is how the water power of the Leyerbach could be exploited.

A sawmill operated on the property until the second half of the 20th century. There was also a restaurant here until after the Second World War. Since the time after the First World War, the Hermann Fröhlich company has been based here on the Leyerbach, a company that manufactures adjusting rings .

For decades the Hofschaft suffered from flooding because the passage under the bridge was often insufficient for the water volume. A rainwater retention basin erected a few hundred meters upstream on the site of the former Wüsterhammer eliminated the problem for the long term.

history

Just above the village of Leyermühle there is a small pond that was fed from the “Bornscheider Siefen”. According to the cadastral map of 1826, a Kotten named "Bornscheider Mühlgen" has stood here since the first half of the 18th century. The tannery owner Seuthe took over this mill in 1828. He ground tree bark containing tannic acid for the tanneries in the area. In 1842 Seuthe leased the Lohmühle to the sickle smith Abraham Stursberg, who lived on Birgden III . He set up a forge in the basement of what is now Leyermühle No. 7, where he and his son of the same name founded the Kluppenschmiede Abraham Stursberg & Sohn, Leyermühle, in 1878 .
