Li Duan ( Chinese  李端 , Pinyin Lĭ Duān ; born June 1, 1978 in Jilin ) is a Chinese former athlete who competes in the long jump , triple jump and javelin throw . He has a visual impairment and therefore starts in disabled sports in classification group F11, where the F stands for the English name field ( de .: field ).

Life

Private

He currently lives in Shenyang with his wife Qi Yanying and their son Xinin . His disability stems from an accident in 1996 , when he wanted to replace an expired fire extinguisher that exploded in front of him. Duan was then in a coma for 15 days , after which his right eye had to be surgically removed; he lost sight in his left eye.

Sports career

Li has numerous successes in Paralympic Games and World Athletics Championships . For example, when he took part in the Summer Paralympics for the first time in Sydney in 2000 , he won a silver and a bronze medal in the three and long jump. In addition, he reached seventh place in the javelin throw. Four years later he achieved the double victory in Athens when he triumphed in both jumping disciplines. In the javelin throw, he was also able to improve to fourth place. After successfully defending both titles in Beijing in 2008, he also traveled to the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London in the hope of a gold medal. There, however, Li had to be content with a second and a third place.

At the 2010 Para-Asian Games in Guangzhou , Li took the oath on behalf of all athletes.
