Liang Sili

Liang Sili ( Chinese  梁思禮 , Pinyin Liáng Sīlǐ ); (Born August 24, 1924 in Beijing ; † April 14, 2016 there ) was a Chinese rocket developer and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences .

He was the youngest son of the scholar Liang Qichao . His two older brothers, Liang Sicheng and Liang Siyong, were also academics.

Liang graduated from Purdue University in 1945 with a degree in engineering. In 1949 he received his PhD in automation control from the University of Cincinnati . He returned to China the same year the Communist Party took power. Liang worked at the Ministry of Posts & Telecommunications and later at the Communication Department of PLA. In 1956, Liang was transferred to the Ministry of Defense's Fifth Institute. He became deputy director of the Research Office of Missile Control System , working under Qian Xuesen . He played an important role in the design of numerous Chinese missiles, including the Dongfeng 2A , Dongfeng 5 , Long March 2, and Long March 3 .

In 1987 Liang was admitted to the International Academy of Astronautics and in 1993 to the Chinese Academy of Sciences . In 1994 he became Vice President of the International Astronautical Federation .

Liang was married to Mai Xiuqiong from 1956 until his death and had three children: Liang Zuojun, Liang Hong, and Liang Xuan.
