Libertine Wien (full name: Libertine Sadomasochism Initiative Wien) is a Viennese BDSM association. The association, founded in 1986, was the first sadomasochistic group in Austria and, according to its own statements, is the oldest corresponding group in the entire German-speaking area.

Goal setting

The goals of the association are on the one hand to support individuals and on the other hand to break down stereotypes and prejudices against sadomasochistic sexuality. The association sees BDSM as part of a diverse erotic culture . He runs various round tables, discussion and cultural events and organizes regular parties.

In addition to individual information on the subject of BDSM, press work and general public relations are among the club's activities. These goals are pursued by many club members who work exclusively on a voluntary basis and are also open to people who are not members of the club.

meaning

The association takes on the character of a model for the development of self-organized sadomasochistic structures in Austria. It served as an important role model for the transition from originally predominantly digitally networked organizational structures to corresponding local structures throughout Austria. Its foundation had an important catalyst function for the emergence of new organizations in the BDSM area.

Today similar structures exist throughout Austria. In Linz and Innsbruck , based on their model, groups have emerged in recent years that also operate under the name Libertine and are closely networked with the Vienna group.

The association is networked with other groups worldwide and nationally. Libertine Vienna is a member of the Bundesvereinigung Sadomasochismus e. V. and supports ReviseF65 .

The best known and founding member of the association is Hermes Phettberg .

The club magazine with the name Unter Druck appeared from 1986 to December 2002 at irregular intervals. The last edition (No. 49) had a circulation of 1,000 copies.
