Headlines is a regular German BDSM magazine published by Charon-Verlag in Hamburg . The magazine is considered the most important of its kind in the German-speaking area.

Content

The magazine appears every two months and, in addition to photos and short stories, contains news from the BDSM scene, book presentations, a changing focus topic and other editorial articles, mostly from readers of the magazine. Formerly a inserts contained a list of BDSM round tables and a busy schedule. That has meanwhile found its way into the magazine, just like the supplement to the “Non-consensual” magazine of the slave center , a BDSM Internet forum that is devoted to another key topic.

Criminal psychologist and writer Lydia Benecke and bondage artist Hera Delgado have been regular headline columnists since 2010 . Other columnists were or are the authors Irena Böttcher, Jana Feuerbach (under the name Nayeli Irkalla) and Apollonia . Luci van Org has also been a columnist since 2017 .

history

Originally the central organ of the SM-Sündikat Hamburg , the first open SM group in Germany, it quickly became commercial and one of the central magazines of the German-speaking BDSM subculture. The first issue appeared in November 1988 with an edition of 200 issues. The magazine was founded by Jan P. Scheu, among others. Geli Maaß joined in from volume two, and in 1990 from volume seven Matthias TJ Grimme . Other employees are Ancilla Hirsch, Roland Hardtke and Ana Schwarz, Heico Linke and Peter Koschnick. The first headlines were made on the typewriter. Later black and white photos were taken, which were then also taken in color and printed. The graphic decorations and logos were designed by Frank Behnsen and Peter Bolz.

The headlines brought out a calendar with pictures by photographer ToKo in 1993. In January 1993, several editors of the magazine appeared on the talk show named after Hans Meiser , and other appearances followed, including at Alfred Biolek . In addition, a large part of the editorial team was in the episode Under German Roofs - That should be love? to see.

Self-image

The headlines “fight for a right to pain and social acceptance”. The former medium of self-help for a small group has seen itself as a voice for a scene since it was founded.

Political work

Part of the editorial staff of the magazine is also part of the “Public Relations Working Group” of the Bundesvereinigung Sadomasochismus e. V. (BVSM) committed. The BVSM is registered as an interest group at the German Bundestag and is thus included in the lobby list. In addition, member of the German Society for Social Science Sex Research .

reception

The taz called the headlines for the magazine's 25th birthday the “most important German-language medium in the scene”. It is a "mix of erotic and advisory literature".

Distribution and circulation

The magazine is primarily distributed through specialist retailers and mail order, and it is also available from many BDSM regulars. The magazine ID of the headlines is ISSN  0948-6941 . In 2000, the total circulation was around 7,200, in 2010 around 4,000, and since 2017 there have been 2,000. Since issue 82 in August 2005, the headlines have been trying to attract more and more young authors with the “Junge Wilde” series.
