Lydia Benecke (born November 1982 as EC Wawrzyniak in Bytom , Poland ) is a German criminal psychologist and writer of popular science non-fiction.

Life

Benecke already took an adult education course in psychology during her school days and after a school internship worked as a freelancer for a psychological psychotherapist during her time outside of school .

After graduating from the Janusz Korczak Comprehensive School in Bottrop , she studied psychology, psychopathology and forensics at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

She wrote her diploma thesis on the subject of "Is the personality construct ' Experience Seeking ' more pronounced in sadomasochists than in non-sadomasochists?"

Since 2008 she has been working therapeutically with sex offenders and violent offenders, including in a social therapeutic institution .

Between 2009 and 2013 she worked as a psychological consultant in criminal cases and in public relations for the company of her then husband, the criminal biologist Mark Benecke .

She now works as a freelance criminal psychologist with an office in Cologne in the fields of counseling and education. Her work focuses on the areas of paraphilias , personality disorders (especially psychopathy , dissocial personality disorder and borderline personality disorder ), trauma disorders , superstitious beliefs, subcultures (especially BDSM scene, black scene , gothic culture , vampire subculture ) and sects .

After completing her studies in psychology, she co-authored several of his books during her collaboration with the forensic biologist Mark Benecke between 2009 and 2011, of which she also edited “ Das Benecke-Universum ”. Lydia Benecke has been a member of the Society for the Scientific Investigation of Parasciences (GWUP), of which she is currently a member of the Scientific Council, since her studies .
