Lawyers for the Dead - Forensic Doctors Uncover is a German documentary series in which detectives, forensic doctors, criminal biologists, criminal psychologists and public prosecutors report on their work in investigating unexplained or unclear deaths. Klaus-Dieter Klebsch and Patrick Linke act as speakers . The television series is produced by OD Media.

The cases are presented on the basis of the case files at the time and with the participation of the investigating police officers, forensic doctors and relatives of the victims. In the series, the viewers are presented with the cases using archived investigation files, investigation methods (e.g. genetic fingerprints ), interviews with those involved in the investigation, personal relatives and friends, and evidence. At the end of each episode, the viewer is also informed of the court ruling on the perpetrator treated in the case. Despite the actual events, changed names of the victims are often used.

Production and broadcast

The pilot episode was broadcast on April 29, 1997, and the series began on December 21, 1999. From 2000 to 2020, the series ran at irregular intervals on the channels RTL , VOX , RTL Nitro , RTL Crime and RTLplus. At the beginning of July 2015, RTL ordered eight new episodes from OD Media. It was broadcast on RTL from September 1, 2016 and ended on October 27, 2016.

In September 2017, RTL announced the broadcast of further new episodes. RTL had 20 new episodes produced with a focus on serial murders. These new episodes were broadcast from October 9th under the additional title “The worst serial killers in the world”. Criminal psychologist Lydia Benecke and forensic doctor Carsten Babian participated in the episodes . Since March 2020, eight episodes of a produced season Lawyers of the Dead - Crimes That Moved Germany have been broadcast.
