Ghost Shark is an American animal horror film directed by Griff Furst from 2013. The Syfy production first aired on August 22, 2013 in the USA.
action
When a great great white shark eats the prey from two fishermen who are participating in a fishing competition, the two torture the shark to almost death. The shark drifts dying into an abandoned cave, where it is brought to life by black magic and continues its mischief as a transparent ghost shark . The shark can now materialize wherever there is water. After taking revenge on the two cruel fishermen and the boat operator, he attacks a group of teenagers who went to the beach to bathe. Including Ava Conte, her sister Cicely and Cameron. Nobody believes the youngsters and so the shark draws a trace of violence through the sleepy fishing nest Smallport.
Ava Conte finally discovers the secret of the beast with the help of the mysterious, alcoholic lighthouse keeper Finch: The cave was created by the Indians and was previously used to raise the dead. The only way to destroy the shark is to kill it again with the weapon that killed it. However, an arrow from the fishermen's harpoon turns out to be unusable. In fact, the shark was killed by a hand grenade. Ava decides to blow up the cave. She actually succeeds in this. The curse is lifted and the shark is destroyed.
background
Ghost Shark is a production of the television station SyFy and had its US premiere on August 23, 2013. As a supporting film, Syfy used the similarly stored Sharknado - enough said! , also a production by the broadcaster and the trigger for a series of trash films based on the great animal horror classic The great white shark mixed with the most unbelievable and fantastic motifs. Directed by Griff Furst, Paul A. Birkett was responsible as screenwriter. Both belong to the regular cast of the station and already worked together on the spider horror film Arachnoquake . There are also many of the station's regular actors in the cast, including Richard Moll as lighthouse keeper Finch.
The film was released on DVD in Germany on October 30, 2013 via Eurovideo. The DVD is approved for ages 18+ because of its extras, but the actual film, which contains some splatter effects , is approved for ages 16+. The premiere followed on February 26, 2014 on the pay-TV channel Syfy and on April 4, 2015 the first broadcast on free TV on Tele 5 .
In 2014, a sequel was shot with Ghost Shark 2: Urban Jaws .
reception
The critics were convinced of the trash quality of the film and compared it to Sharknado . It just didn't have the same internet hype , but on the whole it was similarly amusing.
