Lichtel is a living space within the boundaries of the Creglinger district Oberrimbach in Main-Tauber-Kreis in Franconia dominated northeastern Baden-Wuerttemberg .
history
The place was first mentioned in 1224 as Lichtal . In the 13th century, Lichtel was owned by the Lords of Hohenlohe. The former Lichtel Castle was given to the Archbishopric of Cologne as a fief in 1235. In 1324 Hohenlohe bequeathed the castle and the village of Lichtel with all rights to the Teutonic Order . Lichtel was then temporarily the seat of a religious. From 1340 the Würzburg bishopric was co-owner of the Lichtel estate, and from 1349/50 it was the predominant owner. In the 14th century, Hohenlohe vassals named themselves after Lichtel and around 1350 had a share in the castle and the rule. In addition, Hohenlohe still had rights to the castle. In 1353 Lichtel received the market rights with fortifications, stick and gallows, forcing and ban and all the freedoms of the nearest imperial city. In 1399, the entire estate with the neck court, bailiwick, church set and all people was sold to the city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber . In 1381 Lichtel Castle burned down during the city war before it was finally destroyed in 1407/08. Today only a few remains of the fortification of the village of Lichtel are preserved with a ditch. In 1803 Lichtel came with Rothenburg to Bavaria and in 1810 again to Württemberg. Since then, the Mergentheim Oberamt or the later Mergentheim district has been responsible.
The place came as part of the formerly independent municipality Oberrimbach on February 1, 1972 to the city of Creglingen.

In 1342 a parish church was first mentioned in the village. The patronage of the church was probably St. Nicholas. Today's Protestant Nikolauskirche is also responsible for Oberrimbach. She is currently being supplied from Schmerbach.
