history

middle Ages

The place was first mentioned in 1316 as Rimpach . The earliest mentions of Rimbach refer not only to Niederrimbach but also to Oberrimbach. In the 14th century the place belonged to the Hohenlohe-Brauneck rule of Lichtel and with this it came first to the Teutonic Order in 1324/25 , 1340/49 to the Bishopric of Würzburg and from there in 1399 to Rothenburg. Even before that, Rothenburg citizens and the Rothenburg hospital there owned individual estates in Oberrimbach. In 1316 a castle in Hohenlohe ownership was mentioned on site, which was destroyed in 1381. There may be parallels here with Lichtel.

Modern times

In 1526 the place was burned in a feud against the city of Rothenburg. In 1634 113 people died of an epidemic in Oberrimbach. The place fell to Bavaria in 1803 and then again to Württemberg in 1810 and since then has belonged to the Mergentheim District Office and since 1938 to the Mergentheim district , which became part of the newly formed Main-Tauber District on January 1, 1973.

The formerly independent municipality was still assigned the place Schmerbach as a parcel until 1851. On February 1, 1972, Oberrimbach was incorporated into the town of Creglingen.
