Craintal is a district of Creglingen in the Main-Tauber district in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg .

geography

Craintal is on the right side of the Tauber between Creglingen and Archshofen on the Romantic Road . At the entrance of the right side valley of the Tauber, the elongated, loosely built village expands. The small village is nestled between forest and former vineyards in a stone bar landscape .

Apart from the village of Craintal ( ), there is no other place to live in the former municipality of Craintal .

history

middle Ages

The village was first mentioned in 1318 as Creygental . This may be the same personal name as the origins of Creglingen. The place is therefore to be assumed as an extension of Creglingen, which has shared the history of the nearby town. At the time of the first documentary mention in the 14th century, the place already belonged to the Hohenlohe-Braunecks and after their extinction in 1389 came together with Creglingen via the Counts of Schwarzburg in 1448 to the Margrave Albrecht Achilles of Brandenburg-Ansbach .

Modern times

The place subsequently belonged to the Ansbach Oberamt Creglingen and became Prussian with this in 1791. In 1799 the Rothenburg, the Teutonic Order and the Order of St. John each had small shares in the community rights. In 1806 Craintal fell to Bavaria, in 1810 again to Württemberg and since then has belonged to the Mergentheim District Office and since 1938 to the Mergentheim district , which became part of the newly formed Main-Tauber District on January 1, 1973.

As a municipality, it was only separated from nearby Archshofen in 1828/31. On February 1, 1972 Craintal was incorporated into the town of Creglingen.
