Münster is a district of Creglingen in the Main-Tauber district in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg .

geography

The place expands as the Berbach enters the Herrgottsbachtal . The municipality of Münster ( ) and the localities of Hellenmühle, Hohenweiler and Wieset are part of the district of the former municipality of Münster .

history

middle Ages

The place was first mentioned in a document as Munsteren in 1232 . The name comes from the Latin monasterium , which means monastery or collegiate church. In the 13th and 14th centuries, various lines of the Hohenlohe family can be identified on site. The Hohenlohe-Braunecks sold their shares in the 14th century (1332 and 1366) to other members of the Hohenlohe family. In 1388 they also acquired the possession of von Wiesenbronn near Geroldshofen, which had once belonged to the Bishop of Augsburg. Augsburg fiefdoms (von Leuzenbronn, von Winkel) were mentioned in Münster in 1434 and 1468 respectively.

Modern times

In the 16th century, the Hohenlohe half of the village was pledged to the Lords of Rosenberg . In 1536 the place was redeemed and from then on belonged to the Weikersheim office. The other half of the place was also lent to the von Rosenberg as a Würzburg fief with the lordship of Haltbergstetten. In 1641 the von Hatzfeld were enfeoffed with this part. The rule of law changed annually among the various condominium owners. Tithe sovereignty was shared between Creglingen and Niederstetten. In 1794 the fiefdom fell back to the diocese of Würzburg and in 1803 came to Hohenlohe-Bartenstein-Jagstberg together with the Hohenlohe-Öhringian half of the place as a replacement for property on the left bank of the Rhine. In 1806 the place again came under Württemberg state sovereignty and since then has belonged to the Mergentheim Oberamt and since 1938 to the Mergentheim district , which became part of the newly formed Main-Tauber district on January 1, 1973.

On February 1, 1972, Münster was incorporated into the city of Creglingen.
