The festival of lights is an annual event in August in Büsing-Park in Offenbach am Main . The central component is an open-air concert by the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt . Since 2004 the festival has attracted more than 8000 people and is one of the largest classical open-air concerts in the Rhine-Main area.

event

The festival of lights , which takes place every year in August, is organized by the city of Offenbach and organized by associations, initiatives, churches and religious groups in Büsing-Park . The name of the festival comes from the fact that the participating groups present themselves using motifs arranged by candles. In 2014, 2015 and 2016 and the following years, 70,000 candles were arranged in the park with different motifs.

In addition to an extensive culinary offer, the musical program with the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt is the highlight and an integral part of the festival. Large parts of the audience attend the concert in a picnic atmosphere on blankets, chairs or tables that they have brought with them. There are also seats in front of the stage for which tickets can be purchased. The New Philharmonic's season-end concert is always dedicated to one topic. In 2016, for example, this was men's clothes . In the typical crossover style of the orchestra, for example, Robbie Williams ' Let Me Entertain You about Richard Wagner's mad monologue from the Meistersingers of Nuremberg , excerpts from Mozart's Don Giovanni to James Brown's I Feel Good .

history

The festival of lights took place for the first time on August 18, 2004 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the big city. On this occasion, the Neue Philharmonie gave a thank you concert , as the city had made the Capitol available as a trial domicile. Due to the success of the collaboration, the concert has established itself as an integral part of the festival.

For safety reasons, the number of visitors to the park has been limited to 8,000 people since 2014. To ensure this, admission has been charged since then. In 2016, an entrance fee of € 1 to € 5 was due. Before the number of visitors was limited, 10,000 people took part in the concert.
