The location of the church in Oberauroff on the rock spur

The Liebfrauenkirche in the Idstein district of Oberauroff is a Protestant parish church . Due to its location on a prominent rock spur in the middle of the village, it stands out clearly and shapes the townscape of Oberauroff. It is the oldest church in the Idstein area and bears the international trademark for the marking of cultural property according to the Hague Convention .

A small churchyard adjoins the church as a burial ground. Comprehensive masonry, partly with a supporting function, defines the church area. The nave is Romanesque , the adjoining choir corresponds to the late Gothic . The roof is a ver schiefertes hipped executed. The bell tower with an onion dome is located above the west-facing entrance. The choir is executed with a three-eighth note. It also has a hipped roof. The pillars are clearly visible on the outside, each terminating with a gable roof. The exterior view of the choir is thus clearly structured.

In place of the Liebfrauenkirche there was a chapel in 1160. It was part of a Villa Urefo , which Archbishop Arnold von Mainz bought from the Benedictine monastery Schlüchtern . A simple structural description of this chapel was made in 1215. This chapel was first recorded as a parish church in 1360.

At the end of the 15th century, the choir and sacristy were added. The gable turrets are from 1634. The bell tower was added in the 17th century. As part of a renovation from 1955 to 57, a vault cap in the choir collapsed, which among other things resulted in the destruction of the 18th century organ that was installed in the choir. In 1963/64 the interior was restored.
