Oberauroff is a district of Idstein in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .
Geographical location
The village is located in the Auroffer Grund on the Auroffer Bach west of the core city of Idstein, separated from it by a ridge with the 403 meter high Rügert and the federal highway 3 . Large parts of the district are forested. The closest localities to the city center in the east are Niederauroff in the north, Ehrenbach in the south-west and Eschenhahn in the south.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1160 as Urefo . In 1230/31 the place was mentioned as superior Urefe , 1253 as superiori Uriphi , 1358 as Urfe and 1409 as Urff . From 1230/31 the place is under Count Heinrich II. A part of the County of Nassau . In 1566 the name Oberauroff was first used in a document.
Around 1650 Oberauroff was the center of the Auroffer Grund court .
Territorial reform
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Oberauroff was incorporated into Idstein on January 1, 1977 by virtue of state law . For the district of Oberauroff, as for all districts, a local district with a local advisory board and mayor was set up.

The coat of arms was approved on October 21, 1969 by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior.

Cultural monuments
The Liebfrauenkirche is located in Oberauroff , an evangelical parish church with a Romanesque nave and a late Gothic choir . The furnishings are from the 15th-18th centuries. Century
The cast iron fountain in the street "Am Dorfbrunnen" was possibly made in the Michelbacher Hütte in 1898 (according to the date on the narrow side) and is a listed building. The fountain column has a water outlet in the shape of an animal's head. He stands in the open space at the entrance to the churchyard.
