Heftrich is a district of Idstein in the Hessian Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis . After the core town of Idstein and Wörsdorf , Heftrich is the third largest of the eleven Idstein districts with around 1,600 inhabitants.

Geographical location

Heftrich is located east of the core town of Idstein in a valley basin in the headwaters of the Schlabach , a left southern tributary of the Emsbach near Esch , on the watershed between the Lahn and Main in the eastern Hintertaunus . The Roman Limes runs on this watershed in the south of the district . This is one of the lowest crossings over the central Taunus main ridge, around 351 meters high . The Roman fort Alteburg was built at this point in time .

In the north, Heftrich borders on the Waldems districts of Esch and Bermbach ( Rheingau-Taunus district ), in the east on the Idstein district of Kröftel (Rheingau-Taunus district), in the southeast on the Glashütten district of Schloßborn ( Hochtaunus district ), in the south on the Eppsteiner District Ehlhalten ( Main-Taunus-Kreis ), in the southwest to the Idstein district of Lenzhahn , and in the west to the core town of Idstein.

history

Heftrich, or his church, was first mentioned in 1234 in a patronage dispute. In 1367 Heftrich obtained city rights, which lasted until 1775.

Between 1912 and 1925, a lead and copper mine was operated in Heftrich due to ore discoveries , but it was closed again for economic reasons.

Buildings

For the cultural monuments of the place see the list of cultural monuments in Heftrich .

The district of Heftrich was crossed by the Limes , which began in AD 86 . The place Heftrich was on the Germanic side. The Alteburg Fort was located south of Heftrich, but no remains of it can be seen. The nationally known Alteburger Markt takes place three times a year on the grounds of this Limes fort .

The Protestant church was built from 1737 to 1739 in the form of a transverse church.

In the Willi-Mohr-Halle hangs a pane of Schinderhannes oak, which, over 300 years old, was felled in 1975. Among other things, Schinderhannes is said to have written his famous ransom note to Fuchsmüller under the tree on the way to Born (today Glashütten - Schloßborn ) in 1801 .

Regular events

The annual cycle race around the Henninger Tower , which takes place on May 1st and is a one-day race, leads from Eppstein over the Heftrich roundabout to Kröftel.

The football tournament for amateur teams organized by SV Heftrich also takes place annually, but on Ascension Day .

Another major festival in Heftrich is taking place in the autumn notch , the notch with two parades and a small carnival is celebrated. The notch is ushered in with the traditional torchlight procession on Friday evening.

In addition to the much larger Idstein Christmas market , Heftrich also organizes its own, smaller Christmas market, where the local organizations (clubs, schools and kindergartens, as well as bars) exhibit.

War memorials

There are three war memorials across from the school and cemetery. On the left is the monument to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 and the founding of the Empire. The monument, crowned by an eagle, names the names of those who fell in Heftrich and shows the inscription "From the night of battle - equal to the sun - rose with power - the German Empire". A black obelisk commemorates the fallen of the First World War . In the middle is the massive concrete memorial to the dead of the Second World War .

Economy and Infrastructure

traffic

The convenient location has made Heftrich a road junction. In the west-east direction, the state road L 3023, partly as a southern bypass, leads from the core town of Idstein to Kröftel and Oberems in the east with a branch to Nieder-Oberrod as the district road K 717. After the Alteburg, to Lenzhahn and Oberseelbach in The L 3273 goes south-westerly. After Ehlhalten in the south and Esch in the north, the L 3011 goes. Shortly before Esch, the K 715 branches off to Bermbach. The B 275 runs north of Bermbach and through Esch , via which Heftrich is connected to the federal motorway 3 west of Idstein, bypassing the city center .

education

The classicist school building was built in 1838/39. The stones of the former city wall, which in turn was built from the remains of the Roman fort, were used. Since the late 1960s the school has been a central elementary school . The necessary additional rooms were built in a new building behind the classicist old building. The old building was renovated in 1993/94. The primary school in Heftrich is called Alteburgschule Heftrich.
