“Our village should become more beautiful” in Lenzhahn

Lenzhahn is a district of Idstein in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

geography

Lenzhahn lies, surrounded by forest, southeast of the core town of Idstein in the headwaters of the Seelbach beyond the watershed between Lahn and Main and on the border between the Hohe Taunus and the Hintertaunus . The district area is 238 hectares, of which 138 hectares (58%) are forested.

The remains of the Roman Limes run through the north of the district on the watershed , beyond which the neighboring towns of Dasbach and Heftrich lie. The nearest Roman tower was barely a kilometer away from today's Lenzhahn. The Alteburg Fort is located between Lenzhahn and Heftrich.

The state road L 3273 leads through Lenzhahn from Oberseelbach to Heftrich.

history

It can be assumed that settlements arose in the area of Lenzhahn during the time of the Roman occupation of Altenburg (from 85 to 260 AD).

The existence of the place with the spelling Leiza in the registers of the Counts of Ziegenhain can be traced back to the period 1223–1227. In the contract between Nassau and Eppstein of 1283, the latter waived any right in Lenzhahn.

The place name already indicates the early beginning of settlement. In the chronicle of the parish of Niederseelbach it is derived from the proper name Lenzicho and the Hain and then written accordingly Lenzicheshan and then Lenzhan. A name interpretation for Lenz is the season of the longer days and for Hahn the hedge or the pasture.

At the end of the Thirty Years' War , only the names of four residents are found in the parish registers of Niederseelbach and Idstein. Over the years it was possible to repopulate the village. In 1871 Lenzhahn had 92 inhabitants.

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the community of Lenzhahn voluntarily joined the city of Idstein on July 1, 1972. The community has been oriented towards this city since the Middle Ages. For the district of Lenzhahn, as for all districts, a local district with a local advisory board and mayor was set up.
