Lietuvos dujos (dt. Lithuanian gas ) was a large Lithuanian gas supplier , which from 1995 onwards continued the business of the state gas supplier founded in 1961 under this name. Lietuvos Dujos distributed over 1,800 km of pipelines and a 7,500 km long distribution network to almost all Lithuanian private households connected to the gas network (almost 540,000; 99% of all connected households) as well as 5,300 commercial companies . The company employed 1,800 people (as of 2007; 2,300 in 2002). The company was based in Naujamiestis .

"Lietuvos dujos" was listed on the Vilnius Stock Exchange , since January 1st, 2008 in the first list. A good 6% of the shares were in free float . The general director of the company was from 2004 the Lithuanian Viktoras Valentukevičius while the Board, the controlling tasks perceived was alternately led by E.ON Ruhrgas and Gazprom; from April 2007 Stephan Kamphues from E.ON was Chairman of the Board of Management.

business development

In the second half of the 1990s, the company's sales fell sharply due to the opening of the market to other providers (in the area of bulk consumers) and reached their lowest point in 2002 with 400 million litas (compared to 780 million litas in 1998). Subsequently, the good economic development with stabilizing market shares ensured an increase again, gas sales more than doubled between 2002 and 2007 (from 560 million m³ to 1.364 billion m³), although it has already declined slightly in the last two years is. The fluctuations in consumption by private households, on the other hand, are small: in 2007 they decreased by 187 million m³, in 2003/2004 it was around 150 million m³. The number of private households supplied has increased only slightly since 2003 (518,000) to 537,000 in 2007. In the case of commercial customers, an increase of almost 50% was recorded during this period (from 3,600 to 5,300).

The main reason for the high sales increases in recent years were rapid price increases: while sales in 2003/2004 were still below 500 million Litas, in 2006 it was 780 million Litas and in the following year another 30% more, a good 1 billion Litas. The year 2008 brought - with strong price increases - a record growth of another 50% to 1.56 billion Litas. The net profit rose by more than 80% in 2007 (from 57.3 million LTL to 104 million LTL), but fell again significantly in 2008 (to 64.2 million LTL) and was thus in the range of the years 2003– 2006. The trigger for the decline in profits were the once again sharp rise in gas purchase prices, which in the last quarter were above the contractually agreed sales prices. In 2012 the company achieved sales of 1.873 billion litas .

history

The beginning of the gas supply in Lithuania and thus of the former state gas supplier Lietuvos dujos dates back to the time of the Soviet Union when the first municipalities and companies were connected to the gas pipelines from Russia in the early 1960s (Kaunas, for example, 1962). In many cases, power plants with combined heat and power have been built in the municipalities , which burn gas and generate district heating in addition to electricity .

privatization

The privatization of the state gas supplier began in 1995 with the transformation of Lietuvos Dujos into a joint stock company ( Akcinė bendrovė , AB). In 2001, the government decided that 34% of the shares should be sold to a strategic investor and then a further 34% to a gas supplier . Up to May 2002 92% of the shares were still in government hands.

On May 17, 2002, in a first major privatization step, 34% of the shares were sold to the German energy provider E.ON Ruhrgas for 116 million litas (almost 34 million euros) in accordance with the requirements of the law (total share at the end of 2002: 35.6% ). The only other interested party, Gaz de France , had not submitted an offer. In mid-2002 a further 34% of the shares were put out to tender, which after lengthy negotiations finally went to the only applicant, the Russian natural gas supplier Gazprom , in January 2004 for 100 million litas (just under 29 million euros) . The lower sales price for Gazprom was politically very controversial and was justified by the government with the long-term supply agreement with which Gazprom committed itself to a stable gas supply at commercial prices until 2015. The state still held 17.7% of the shares through its privatization authority .

In 2015 Lietuvos dujos was reorganized. Energijos skirstymo operatorius has existed since 2016 .
