Workers' point of view

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Workers' Standpoint (AST) is a Trotskyist , internationalist organization. It forms the Austrian section of the League for the Fifth International . It existed since the 1980s under the name ArbeiterinenStandpunkt (ASt) and operated from October 2007 to June 2011 as the League of Socialist Revolution (LSR).

Political positions

The goal of the revolutionary AST is the overthrow of capitalism through a proletarian revolution and the establishment of a “ socialist council republic ” in order to achieve a classless society . The AST rejects the totalitarian real socialism of the Eastern bloc states and criticizes Stalinism . Since the revolution is to take place internationally , he relates his commitment not only to Austria, but also to the rest of the world through the LFI. In addition, the AST works in the unions and tries to replace the leadership with a combative one. As LSR, he was part of the Left Party during its candidacy for the Austrian National Council elections in 2008.

organization

The AST is structured according to the principle of the Leninist cadre party. Although it has a small number of members, it takes part in most of the demonstrations of the Viennese left. It is financed through newspaper sales and donations. The youth organization with which AST works closely is called Revolution .

Disruption of an event in Café 7stern

On March 9, 2005, a group from the AST disrupted an event on the subject of "Iran and the bomb" in the left-wing cultural center Café 7stern, which was organized by the group Café Critique , which is associated with the anti-German tendency . A visitor, Mary Kreutzer , was injured by Michael Pröbsting, one of the AST spokespersons at the time. In March of the following year, Pröbsting was convicted of bodily harm to Kreutzer. Michael Pröbsting is no longer a member of the workers' point of view and was excluded in 2011 due to sectarian positions and a destructive approach.

The AST is currently bringing out two publications: the monthly workers ' standpoint: Revolution, Council Democracy, Socialism and, together with the German group workers' power , the theoretical organ Revolutionary Marxism .
