Mary Kreutzer

Mary Kreutzer (* 1970 in Wels ) is an Austrian political scientist and journalist specializing in women's rights, development policy and displacement.

Life

Mary Kreutzer grew up in Guatemala and studied political science, history and interpreting in Vienna . She is editor of the magazine of the “ Austrian League for Human Rights ” (liga) and co-founder and chairwoman of the organization “League for Emancipatory Development Cooperation ” (LeEZA, pronounced Lisa ). This Austrian NGO has been supporting u. a. several women's centers in Iraq, a free radio station and a campaign against female genital cutting . In Turkey, LeEZA supports a women's center for internally displaced persons in Diyarbakir and a women's shelter in Dersim / Tunceli. LeEZA has been supporting a women's center in Syria (Rojava, Amude) since 2013, but is also active in Europe for the rights of asylum seekers and in information work about Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Sudan and other countries in the region.

In 2008 she produced as part of the "Society for Critical Research on Antisemitism " a documentary film about the life of the Austrian journalist Karl Pfeifer , who as a child from the Nazis fled to Palestine and fought in Israel's War of Independence.

Kreutzer was an editor and radio producer for the multimedia project Context XXI for several years and supports the NGO platform “Export Credit Agencies-Watch” (ECA Watch), an international NGO that campaigns against the construction of the Ilısu Dam in eastern Turkey. She supports the solidarity list against deportation . and is active on the board of the Austrian Society for Kurdology / European Center for Kurdish Studies as well as on the advisory board of the "Network for Social Cohesion. Prevention, Deradicalization and Democracy".

Others

On March 9, 2005, a group of members of the Trotskyist group Arbeiterstandpunkt disrupted an event of the Stop-the-Bomb campaign in the Viennese cultural center Café 7stern. Mary Kreutzer was physically attacked and injured as a visitor by Michael Pröbsting, one of the group's spokesmen at the time. In March of the following year, he was convicted of assault.
