The film deals with the life and work of artist Jan Vermeer (1632-1675), one of the most famous Dutch painter of the Baroque . His works, Young Woman with a Water Pot at the Window , Girl with a Red Hat , The Love Letter and View of Delft will be particularly examined . Delft , the painter's birthplace, is presented separately. The old town with its numerous sights bears witness to its past as a flourishing trading town in the Golden Age , the era in which Jan Vermeer worked there.

The film, produced by Art Film Productions for 20th Century Fox , was released in the United States on September 17, 1952.

Award

Boris Vermont was awarded an Oscar as the producer of the film at the 1953 Academy Awards in the category “Best Short Film” (1 film role) .
