Purple Majumdar

Lila Majumdar ( Bengali : লীলা মজুমদার , Līlā Majumadār ; * February 26, 1908 in Kolkata ; † April 5, 2007 ibid) was a Bengali writer who is particularly known for her children's literature.

Majumdar was the daughter of Pramada Ranjan Ray and Surama Devi. Her uncle is the children's author Upendrakishore Raychowdhury , the grandfather of Satyajit Ray . She spent her childhood in Shillong , where she went to school at the Loretto Convent . Majumdar published her first story Lakkhichhara in 1922 in the children's magazine Sandesh , edited by her cousin Sukumar Ray since the death of her uncle . She graduated from the University of Calcutta . Her most important works include Holde Pakhir Palok , Padipishir Barmibaksho , Shob Bhuture , TongLing , Maaku , Podi Pishir Bormi-baksho . From 1963 to 1994 she was co-editor of Sandesh magazine . In her autobiographies, Aar Konokhane and Pakdondi , she tells of her youth in Shillong, her relationship with Shantiniketan and All India Radio and her path through the Bengali literary scene.

Lila Majumdar has won numerous Bengali literary prizes, including Ananda Puraskar and Shishu Sahitya Puraskar .
