Lilium nanum var. Flavidum is a variety of Lilium nanum from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the Asian section . Lilium nanum var. Flavidum is not in culture.

description

Lilium nanum var. Flavidum reaches a stature height of 10 cm to 30 cm and is therefore a dwarf lily. The bulbs are elongated and reach a diameter of about 1.5 to 2.3 cm, they are covered with white lanceolate scales. The stem is hard and straight. The leaves are broad-linear, between 6 and 11 cm long and between 4 and 8.5 cm wide. They are freely distributed around the stem.

The plant blooms in June with a single nodding bloom. The hermaphrodite flower is threefold. The six identical bloom cladding sheets ( tepals ) are between 2.5 and 2.7 cm long and 1 to 1.2 cm wide. The basic color of the flowers is bright yellow without points. The anthers are about 6 mm long, the pollen are purple red, and the filaments are 1 to 12 mm long. The nectaries are fringed on both sides.

The seeds ripen in yellow, mottled purple, 2.8 cm to 3.5 cm long seed capsules until September and germinate immediately and epigeously .

distribution

The species is native to the southeast of Xizang Province and the Yunnan Province of the People's Republic of China, as well as Myanmar.

Lilium nanum var. Flavidum is found on the edges of forests and on alpine meadows at altitudes between 3800 m and 4300 m above sea level .

Botanical history

Some types of the variety were temporarily listed as a separate species, Lilium euxanthum . The species rank was not undisputed, initially they were described as Lilium nanum var. Flavidum or Fritillaria flavida , but then assigned by William Wright Smith and William Edgar Evans as Nomocharis euxantha of the genus Nomocharis . It was only Joseph Robert Sealy who described Lilium euxanthum as a separate species. To distinguish it from Lilium nanum var. Flavidum , it was stated that the leaves of Lilium euxanthum would not reach higher than those of the flower. In the meantime the view has gained acceptance that this is not a sufficient criterion and that Lilium euxanthum is only considered a synonym.
