Liljeholmen is a partially underground station on the Stockholm Metro . It is located in the Liljeholmen district . The station is served by the Röda linjen of the Stockholm subway system as well as by the light rail-like Tvärbanan , whose trains run like trams in the public street space and stop at the northeastern, above-ground entrance of the subway station. The station itself is more of a low-lying location, below a residential complex. Due to the relief of the terrain, the southwest head of the station is partly on the surface of the earth in the open. The station is a separation station, here the two southwestern branches of the röda Linjen to Fruängen and Norsborg separate. In addition, the connection to the Nyboda depot branches off here. The central location makes the station a very popular one in the subway network. On a normal working day, an average of 57,400 passengers get on and transfer here. Of these, 34,300 are on the subway, 12,000 on the Tvärnana and 11,100 on buses.

The station was put into operation on April 5, 1964, when the first section of the Röda linjen between T-Centralen and Fruängen or Örnsberg was inaugurated. The station was built using the cut-and-cover method. It is located between the Hornstull and Aspudden (T13) or Midsommarkransen (T14) stations. It is around 4 kilometers to Stockholm Central Station .

Platforms and connections

The platforms run in a northeast-southwest direction. The underground station has three platforms with four tracks. The northwesternmost platform has two platform edges for the trains to Ropsten and Mörby Centrum. The middle platform has an edge for trains coming from the northeast and ending here. Trains that continue south-west to Fruängen or Norsborg use the track between the middle and south-east platforms, but only the doors to the latter platform are opened. This platform has doors on the other side to the also deep bus station. At the southwest end you can get directly to the basement of the shopping center.

The switch system at the southwest end is relatively extensive, because not only the lines T13 and T14 are divided here, but there is also a branch to Nybodadepå.

From the southwest end there is also a corridor to the valley station of Nybohovs Hissbana, a funicular railway that supplies the Nybohovsberget settlement 37 meters higher. This funicular, which runs in the tunnel, has only one car running on pneumatic wheels.
