Limoza Island (English; Bulgarian остров Лимоза ostrow Limosa ) (in Argentina Isla Ruiz ) is a 470 m long and 230 m wide rocky island in west-east orientation in the group of Joinville Islands off the northeastern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 1.5 km off the north coast of D'Urville Island , 10.98 km east-southeast of Cape Juncal , 6.32 km southeast of Harris Rock and 13.8 km west-northwest of the largest of the Français Rocks .
British scientists mapped them in 1973. The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named them in 2018 after the Bulgarian trawler Limosa , who from the 1970s to the early 1990s fishing in the waters around South Georgia , around the Kerguelen , around the South Orkney Islands and the South Shetland Islands and around the Antarctic Peninsula.
