Lin Gengxin

Lin Gengxin ( Chinese  林 更新 , Pinyin Lín Gēngxīn ; born February 13, 1988 in Shenyang ), also known as Kenny Lin , is a Chinese actor. He was best known for his role on the television series Scarlet Heart (2011) and subsequently appeared in a number of blockbusters including Detective Dee and the Curse of the Sea Monster (2013), My Old Classmate (2014), The Taking of Tiger Mountain (2014 ) and Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back (2017).

life and career

Lin studied at the Shanghai Theater Academy from 2007 . During his studies he participated in low-budget productions, television shows, short films and commercials. In 2011 he played Prince Yinti in the television series Scarlet Heart and became known to a wide audience. His next role was in the series Xuan-Yuan Sword: Rift of the Sky (2012), which was a great success, especially online. Lin had his first film role in Tsui Hark's Detective Dee and the Curse of the Sea Monster in 2013. For this he was nominated for best newcomer at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards .

2014 followed a role in the coming-of-age film My Old Classmate on the side of Zhou Dongyu . The film achieved high grossing and won the Students' Choice Award at the 21st Beijing College Student Film Festival . In the same year, Lin appeared in the action film Black & White: The Dawn of Justice and worked again with Tsui Hark: The film The Last Battle of Tiger Mountain was another box office hit.

In 2015, Lin received the role of General Zhao Yun in the television series God of War, Zhao Yun , which is based on the novel The Tale of the Three Kingdoms . After the premiere in April 2016, the series immediately developed into a huge public success. In the same year he had leading roles in the films For a Few Bullets and Sword Master, as well as a supporting role in Zhang Yimou's The Great Wall . In 2017, Lin appeared as Sun Wukong in Journey to the West: The Demons Strike Back (again directed by Tsui Hark) . The film grossed US $ 239.5 million in China, making it the most successful film adaptation of the Journey to the West . Lin was also featured on the Princess Agents series.
