Lee Ji-yeon (born February 18, 1984 in South Korea ) is a South Korean singer, known by her stage name Lina . She originally sang in the duet Isak N Jiyeon . Since 2005 she has been in the South Korean girl band The Grace .
Career
In 2000, Lee Ji-yeon participated as Jiyeon in the Starlight Casting System of SM Entertainment . She sang the song Shalala by SES and the song Genie in a Bottle by Christina Aguilera , then she danced. Her voice and charisma impressed the judges and she won the casting.
She signed a record deal with SM Entertainment and became a member of the two-man girl group Isak N Jiyeon . At the beginning of her career, her name was not Lina , but Jiyeon . Together with the singer Isak , they released a studio album. The album was called Tell Me Baby and shortly after its release the band broke up. Isak's family problems were responsible and she had to travel back to California because of it .
After that, Lee Ji-yeon was active as a model and starred in various music videos. SM Entertainment had her record the song 바램 ( Fight To The End ) together with three other girls . The result was the group The Grace , which debuted in 2005 and in which she bears the stage name Lina . Since then she has been active in this band and has gained recognition in the South Korean and Chinese music markets. Because of her powerful voice she is also called the South Korean Christina Aguilera .
In 2006 she recorded the Japanese-language song Rock 'n' Roll Star , which she sings solo and is the b-side of The Grace's single Sweet Flower .
After the band retired in 2009, Lina opened her own online clothing shop, where she also models. The band came on stage one last time for the SMTown World Tour '10 in South Korea and the USA , albeit in threes. Group member Stephanie was not present. A comeback has been announced, but not for when.
She plays the piano and speaks fluent Japanese in addition to her native Korean .
