The Grace ( Korean : 천상 지희 더 그레이스; Hanja : 天上 智 喜 The Grace, also known in Japan under the name Tenjōchiki) is a four-member Korean girl group founded by SM Entertainment .

They made their debut with the single Too Good in 2005. Since then the group has worked in Japan, South Korea and other Asian countries.

history

Prehistory and origin

SES was SM Entertainment's most successful girl group. After the group broke up towards the end of 2002, no more successful girl groups came onto the South Korean music market. In 2004 the record company tried another project, four girls recorded the song " 바램 (Fight to the End)" ( Eng . Fight to the end). Three of the four girls were already known in the music business, Dana, Jiyeon (later Lina), Sunday and now Stephanie. Since the girls harmonized well with their voices for " 바램 (Fight to the End)", SM Entertainment decided to bring another girl group in the style of TVXQ to the music market. The band was introduced on September 17, 2004. The debut in China followed eight months later and successfully in Japan in January 2006 .

Names

For the China debut they changed their names, Dana was called Xiyue Dana , Lina was called Shangmei Lina , Sunday was called Zhisheng Sunday and Stephanie was called Tianwu Stephanie . However, only Too Good was released in China. They sang in the respective national languages. In Korean they are called Chun Sang Ji Hee ( 천상 지희 ; CSJH; also Cheon Sang Ji Hee) and in Japanese they are called Tenjōchiki ( 天上 智 喜 ; TJCK). The Korean name was derived from the names of the band: Chun Moo Stephanie, Sang Mi Lina, Ji Sung Sunday and Hee Yul Dana. In China they are also known under the name Tiān Shàng Zhì Xǐ (TSZX).

2005 to 2006

On April 29, 2005 the group officially performed in China for the first time and presented their new songs Too Good and Boomerang . A few weeks later, the girls were shown on the Chinese TV channel CCTV . The lyrics of both songs were sung in Chinese, the refrains in Korean . Two days later on May 1, 2005, the girls made their debut with Too Good on the Korean SBS TV station on the show Popular Songs . After promoting their single for seven months, the girls released a re-release of Too Good , including Boomerang and Fight to the End, in several online stores in March 2006 .

On January 25, 2006, they released the Japanese version of Boomerang on singles in CD-only and CD + DVD format. The B-side was a song called “Do You Know?” Which is a solo version of Sunday . The single made it to number 110 in the Top 200. After Boomerang , they released the second Japanese single The Club on March 8 , which also contained a B-side track. This time sung solo by Stephanie and is called "What U Want". The single only reached number 131 in the Oricon charts. The single was released in Korean in South Korea. The third Japanese single, Sweet Flower , was used as background music for TBS Radio and on Count Down TV for the Commuications music show and landed at number 151 on the charts. This single also contained a B-side track by Lina , Rock'n'Roll Star . Sweet Flower was also released in South Korea by SM Entertainment, but there was no Korean version of it.

On June 19, Avex Trax released the Japanese single for Boomerang on the Chinese record company CRSC . In Taiwan and Hong Kong , a new edition of the Korean single for The Club was released , which included the Chinese version of The Club and a DVD with the Korean music videos. Juicy Love was released on July 12, 2006, which also contained a B-track, this time by Dana , "Sayonara no Mukō ni" ( さ よ な ら の 向 こ う に ). The title song Juicy Love was a Featuring the Japanese reggae singer Corn Head. The single is officially written juicy LOVE and the Japanese version was also released in South Korea. Sweet Flower and Juicy Love have also been officially released in some Asian countries.

After the first four singles, The Grace advertised themselves at various events. Dana broke her leg while on the promotion tour for Juicy Love and was only able to perform at a few events. The last song they released in Japan before the comeback in South Korea was "Get on the Floor", a featuring with rapper Dogma , which can be found on a soundtrack album. The last appearance in Japan was on the annual A-Nation Tour. After the Japanese activities, SM Entertainment announced that the band will return to South Korea at the end of 2006. However, the concept is to change for the third time, initially as an a cappella band, then as a pop group and now a typical pop / dance girl band. The record company also changed the name by shortening it to CSJH and they are now called CSJH The Grace (Internationally except Japan, they are simply called The Grace ). However, The Grace released another ballad on November 3, 2006, which is called 열정 (My Everything) ( Eng. Passion (Mein Alles)).

2007 to 2008: Development in the music market

In April 2007, a preview of the Hanbeon Deodorant , OK ( 한번 더 , OK ?; One More Time, OK ?; Again, OK?) Music video was released in South Korea . The music video was released on May 4th and the song is on the first Korean studio album of the same name, Hanbeon Deo, OK? (One More Time, OK?) Available, which also on May 4th. has been published. Hanbeon deodorant, OK? is still the most successful song and the most successful studio album by The Grace. The song came to the top of MNET m! countdown and the SBS Inkigayo charts , the album also sold very high numbers for the first time. In the first month alone, and in 2007 in total, the studio album sold over 18,000 copies and landed at number 6 in the monthly Korean charts. On June 15, the album was released in Taiwan. A month after the album was released there were allegations that the songs were Hanbeon Deo, OK? and Tonight Is on Me are offensive to younger listeners. At the end of August it was decided that the studio album had an age rating of 19+ and could not be sold to young people.

Shortly after the promotion of their first Korean studio album, a new Japanese single was released on August 1st. The single is called Piranha , which is the Japanese version of My Everything and Just for One Day feat. JaeJoong included. The First Press version was remixed by The Club featuring Seamo . They debuted for the first time at number 26 in the Oricon Daily Charts, at the end of the first week they reached number 50 and were in the top 50 of the Japanese charts for the first time. A month later they announced the first Japanese studio album, which should be released on November 21st. However, the publication was brought forward one week to November 14th for unknown reasons. The album is called Graceful 4 and is The Grace's first Japanese studio album. The album had the Japanese version of Hanbeon Deodorant as its title track , OK? which now just One More Time, OK? was called. Also, Just for One Day is on the album, but as a jazz remix. The studio album made it to number 103 on the Oricon charts and sold more than 1,500 times in the first week.

In the first few months of 2008, The Grace performed as Tenjochiki in Japan on various stages. They also had their first three concerts from April to May. The show was called Graceful Party Vol. 1 . In their last concert, at the Daikanyama Unit in Tokyo , they sang the single Here, which was released much later . Here is a duet with the Japanese hip-hop group Cliff Edge . The sixth Japanese single Stand Up People was released on July 23, 2008. The seventh Japanese single Here (feat. Cliff Edge) was released on October 22nd. The song was known in advance because they sang it on the last show of the Graceful Party Vol. 1 and the song was leaked too early, which led to the song being offered for free for download for a certain time. The song Here became the theme music for the Japanese film "Homeless School Student". The single was also a Double A Side single for the first time , which means that the second song, which is actually a B-Side track, also got a music video. The song is called Near and was without Cliff Edge. The single reached number 16 on the weekly Japanese charts for the first time and sold over 16,000 copies for the first time, and is still The Grace's most successful single.

2009 to 2010

On January 7, 2009, the second Japanese studio album was released. The album is called Dear ... and included the singles Stand Up People and Here . The album debuted at number 14 on the Oricon Daily Charts and reached number 37 on the weekly charts. There was also a limited DVD version that included all ten Japanese music videos. For the Japanese dance film Subaru , the title song from the Dear… album was used, which is called “ 少 し で い い か ら ” (Sukoshi De Ikara; A Piece of Good). They also recorded a new song Coming to You , which can only be heard on the soundtrack album. Band member Stephanie was also seen in the film as a ballet trainer. The first live tour called Tenjochiki 1st Live Tour 2009 ~ Dear ... ~ also started in March 2009. Group member Stephanie was unable to take the tour because she had chronic back pain and needed to rest, so she was not part of the Dear ... promotion and all activities were stopped after the tour. In mid-2010 it was announced that CSJH The Grace would be at the SMTown concerts, but only in South Korea ( Seoul ) and in the USA ( Los Angeles ). The project was called SMTown Live '10 . Since Stephanie wasn't there because of her ballet studies, only Dana, Lina and Sunday sang. After the short tour the girls went their own way and nothing more was heard from The Grace .

On November 24th, Avex Entertainment announced that they were renewing their contract with SM Entertainment and that The Grace or better Tenjochiki are still under contract with Avex in Japan. Dana wrote several times on Twitter that The Grace are working on a new album and it should be released next year. She also said that they will be in the studio in December 2010 and January 2011 recording new songs. However, there were never any specific details about whether they would come back as a full band and when the album would be released.

Since 2011: Comeback for two and new paths

On January 27th, SM Entertainment announced the group's comeback for April. Stephanie didn't want to continue. Since then it has been clear that the comeback can only start with Dana and Sunday. Lina wants to bring her acting skills to the stage and realize them. Therefore, the comeback will only start with two. However, it is said that the other two want to join the band after their activities. On June 27th, SM Entertainment announced that CSJH wanted to start their comeback with a new image in July of this year. A song called "VIP" was supposed to be released on July 13th.

Dana & Sunday at the Cyworld Dream Music Festival

On July 4th it was announced that The Grace would be returning as a duo, thus confirming the comeback of the two. They are, however, an extended group of The Grace and call themselves Dana & Sunday . On July 6th, a preview of the new music video was released, which was released on July 8th. The single is called " 나 좀 봐줘 (One More Chance)" ( German: A break or another chance) and has been available in digital format since July 13th. Their real comeback followed on the same day that they appeared on the KBS TV station on Music Bank . The official YouTube music video, which was uploaded from the official account of SM Entertainment (channel: SMTOWN), had well over 100,000 views in the first 15 hours and over 740,000 views in the first week. The video now has over a million views. According to the Gaon Charts , the single was downloaded 258,197 times in the first week (10 to 16 July 2011) and made it into the charts at number 20. On the second, third and fourth September, Dana & Sunday took part in the SM Town World Tour in Tokyo. At Christmas time, Dana & Sunday recorded a new song, the song is called "Amazing" and is listed on the album SMTOWN - Winter the Warmest Gift , which was released on December 13, 2011 , the song is sung entirely in English. On December 20th, an EP with many different artists was released, Dana & Sunday are also represented on it, they have the first track on the CD, and the song is called "First Americano". There is also a music video; the project is called "With Coffee Project Part 1" and other parts are also planned with Dana & Sunday. The song "First Americano" was downloaded 127,228 times in the first week in the first week, according to the Gaon Charts in 27th place.

The DVD for the SMTown concert from Tokyo Dome was released on February 22nd, 2012, Dana & Sunday are also listed on it. The duo sings "My Everything" as the second track on the first DVD and "One More Chance" as the third track. Since the DVD was only released in Japan, Dana & Sunday will continue to be marketed there under the actual Japanese band name of the entire band "Tenjōchiki". The duo took part as a guest appearance on April 6th at the Super Show 4 in Paris and sang “One More Chance”. This was the first European concert by the South Korean band Super Junior .

It was announced that Stephanie is now under contract with Media Line Entertainment and worked with Star Museum Entertainment on her first solo single The New Beginning . The single was released on October 8, 2012, in South Korea.

On May 15, 2016 it was announced that Stephanie's contract with SM Entertainment had expired and that she had not renewed it, as she wanted to concentrate on her solo career under Mafia Records - that was how she decided to leave the group.
