Chip (rapper)
Chip (born November 26, 1990 ; real name Jamal Noel Fyffe ), formerly Chipmunk , is a British grime rapper.
Career
Chipmunk, who hails from Tottenham in north London, made a name for himself as a freestyler at the age of 15, recording his first mix tapes and selling CDs he had produced himself. When the grime rapper and producer Wiley became aware of him, the professionally produced mixtape League of My Own was created with his support , which gave him his first breakthrough. In 2008 he was named best newcomer at the MOBO Awards and the Urban Music Awards, and he was even nominated for a BET Award as a rapper in the USA .
The following year, Chipmunk signed with Sony Columbia and had his first single success with Chip Diddy Chip , which landed at number 21 on the UK charts. His involvement in Ironik's new recording of Elton John's Tiny Dancer brought him to the top chart regions shortly afterwards and gave him additional fame. With Diamond Rings together with the singer Emeli Sandé he had his first own top 10 hit in July 2009 and three months later he even made it to number 1 in the British charts with Oopsy Daisy . This single was the forerunner to his debut album I Am Chipmunk , which entered the album charts at number 2 the following week.
His Song Champion has sold over 380,000 digital copies in the UK.
Since January 2012 he only calls himself Chip.
